Biography

Carol is an oncology nurse practitioner at HonorHealth Research Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she is a sub-investigator in phase 1 oncology clinical trials. Her specialty is gastrointestinal oncology. She has worked her entire 40-year nursing career in caring for oncology patients. She has worked from a staff nurse to a clinical nurse specialist, including her last 15 years as a nurse practitioner.

She is an integral part of the GI research team as oncology nurse practitioner. She is currently sub-investigator on all oncology clinical trials at the Research Institute. She plans to help develop an early detection program for colorectal cancers.

She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, at the national and local levels, and the American Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology. She has authored several book chapters. She has published oncology articles in Journal of the Advanced Practitioner in Oncology, and presented posters at their annual meeting.

She has a strong interest in health literacy, symptom management and palliative care.

Research Interests & Focus

Carol Guarnieri has an interest in Gastrointestinal Oncology where she has worked for the past 9 years with a GI oncologist in primarily phase 1 clinical trials. She works in all aspects, including identification of patients for trial, screening patients for clinical trials, educating patients about the clinical trial process, and symptom management.
She is looking forward to continuing advancing the science in GI Oncology. She also is interested in developing an early detection program for patients that have a hereditary predisposition syndrome to colorectal cancers.
