Helen A. Markowski is an Associate Professor of Clinical Practice at the Arizona State University School of Medicine and Medical Engineering. She serves as Associate Trauma Medical Director at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, Level I Trauma Center. A board-certified general surgeon with subspecialty certification in surgical critical care and wound management, Dr. Markowski has over 15 years of experience in trauma, emergency, and critical care surgery in both academic and rural settings. She is a leader in graduate medical education, serving as Associate Program Director for the HonorHealth Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and Program Site Director for multiple surgery residency and medical student clerkship programs, including Creighton University, University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix, and Midwestern University. Nationally, Dr. Markowski contributes to guideline development and educational initiatives through the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American Trauma Society, and the Association of Women Surgeons. She is actively involved in curriculum development, trauma survivor outreach, and mentorship of learners from high school through fellowship. Her academic interests include trauma resuscitation protocols, surgical education innovation, and patient-centered recovery after injury. Dr. Markowski’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and she is a frequent invited speaker at regional and national conferences.
