Biography

After graduating from Annapolis. Dr. John E. Wanebo completed medical school at the University of Virginia. He interned at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., and then served as the winter-over medical officer for the National Science Foundation at McMurdo Station in Antarctica from 2002-04.

He then trained in Neurosurgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He completed fellowship training in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at Barrow Neurological Institute in 2002. He served as a Naval Neurosurgeon at San Diego Naval Medical Center, Landstuhl Army Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 2002-09.

He joined the staff at HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn campus and served as director of Neuro Trauma untill 2015, before serving as Director of Cerebrovascular and Neurooncologic Sugery. He founded the HonorHealth CNS tumor board in 2022. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He also published a book on Moyamoya disease. He is a strong advocate of medical education.

Research Interests & Focus

Precision care of brain tumors to include therapy based on molecular profile of tumor.
Collaborate with Organoid production from brain tumor samples with goal of targeted therapy.
Use of other technologies to guide brain tumor therapy.
Use of cranial brachytherapy.
Outcomes of treatment of Moyamoya disease and cerebral aneurysms.
Advance use of ketogenic diet for malignant brain tumors.
