Biography

Dr. Maya Thosani conducted her undergraduate training at Columbia University, and received her Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), known since 2013 as Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences.

After completing a rigorous internship at New York University’s Downtown Hospital in Manhattan, she remained in NYC completing 3 years of dermatology residency and served as a Chief Resident at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she divided her time between University Hospital, the Veterans Affairs Hospital, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Skin Cancer Center.

In pursuit of advanced surgical training, Dr. Thosani completed a demanding 1-year accredited fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery in Cincinnati under the mentorship of Dr. Brett Coldiron, while at the same time training with plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, and oculoplastic surgeons.

Dr. Thosani’s clinical interests involve cutaneous oncology and the use of dermoscopy as a non-invasive tool for early detection of skin cancer.

She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Phoenix Dermatologic Society, and a fellow of the Mohs College.

She has performed over 15,000 Mohs micrographic surgeries, as well as countless other surgical procedures. She is double-board-certified in both Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.

Her personal interests include spending time with her husband and three children. She is passionate about health and wellness, believing that there are many factors that influence our bodies and minds, especially nutrition and movement. She enjoys practicing yoga daily, and traveling with her family and friends. Golf, skiing, biking and hiking are some of the new passions she has been fortunate enough to pursue since moving to the Valley in 2014.

Research Interests & Focus

Dr. Maya Thosani’s focus and expertise relates to cutaneous oncology, and non-invasive diagnosis of skin cancer using dermoscopy. She is a double-board-certified, fellowship-trained Dermatologic and Mohs micrographic surgeon who has performed over 15,000 surgical procedures since 2008.
Her “wholistic” approach combines the latest treatment options with the individual patient’s lifestyle and social factors in consideration to maximize their healing, health and wellness.

• Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction
• Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer surgery
• Dermoscopy (a non-invasive tool to diagnose skin lesions)
• Skin cancer screenings
• Cutaneous oncology tumor board
• Counseling on overall skin health with a focus on skin cancer prevention
