Prehospital ice water immersion for hyperthermia and patient outcomes
Overview
Hyperthermia, either exertional or non-exertional, is a problem in the Phoenix area due to the extreme heat. Prehospital treatments have focused on rapid cooling techniques that are implementable in the field. In early 2024 the Phoenix Fire Department implemented a prehospital rapid cooling technique for hyperthermia using ice water immersion. We propose an observational study based on chart review to evaluate this technique in several Phoenix area hospitals.
