HonorHealth Research Institute and Seena Magowitz Foundation present: Steppin’ Up Against Pancreatic Cancer™

Community walk and fundraiser set for Nov. 2 at Mountain America Stadium, home of ASU Sun Devils football

TEMPE, Ariz. — Sept. 25, 2024 —
HonorHealth Research Institute, in collaboration with the Seena Magowitz Foundation, is proud to announce “Steppin’ Up Against Pancreatic Cancer™,” a community walk and fundraiser aimed at raising awareness and supporting groundbreaking research in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Join us on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Mountain America Stadium, home of ASU Sun Devils football, for a morning of unity, remembrance, and commitment. This inspiring event offers participants the opportunity to contribute to a cause that affects countless lives, as we strive to make a difference for patients battling one of the most devastating cancers.

“When we chose ‘Steppin’ Up Against Pancreatic Cancer,’ we intentionally focused on steps rather than a traditional 3K or 5K. That’s because sometimes, even taking a single step can be harder than we imagine — whether it’s a physical step or an emotional one — but each one is meaningful. Every step represents a moment of hope, a push forward, and a stand against this disease,” said Roger E. Magowitz, Founder of the Seena Magowitz Foundation.

What to Expect

A community walk bringing together survivors, families, caregivers, and supporters

Step-tracking and milestone achievements for participants

Engaging charitable initiatives and fundraising activities

Special recognition of individuals and teams making significant contributions to the cause

“As someone who has seen firsthand the toll pancreatic cancer takes on families, ‘Steppin’ Up Against Pancreatic Cancer’ holds special meaning for me. This event is about more than fundraising; it’s about showing those affected that they are not alone. We’re walking for survivors, for loved ones, and for the hope that one day we’ll beat this disease,” said Stan Vitikas, Event Chair and 16-year Pancreatic Cancer Survivor.

The Impact of the Event

The funds raised from this walk will directly support pancreatic cancer research initiatives at HonorHealth Research Institute, where innovative clinical trials and cutting-edge treatments are being developed to provide new hope and longer lives for patients.

Erkut Borazanci, M.D., Medical Director of the Oncology Research Division at HonorHealth Research Institute, said: “This year, more than 50,000 Americans will succumb to pancreatic cancer, making it the nation’s third deadliest type of malignancy, after lung and colorectal cancers. But we are making progress, with more pancreas cancer patients surviving to pursue longer lives, gaining more quality time with friends and family.

“The Seena Magowitz Foundation has been instrumental as a source for both advocacy and supporting groundbreaking research for patients with pancreatic cancer. Funds from this new walk at Arizona State University will be put to work immediately as we pursue new clinical trials at HonorHealth Research Institute, providing hope and answers for patients and their loved ones,” added Dr. Borazanci.
