Mindy Dygert, a dedicated member of the HonorHealth Research Institute for more than 5 years, found her calling in neuroscience during college, inspired by a family experience with her niece’s pediatric brain tumor.

“I knew then that, not only did I want to work in neuroscience, but set a goal to one day be part of a research team, working on a cure for high grade and recurrent brain tumors,” said Dygert, reflecting on her professional journey.

She credits Angelina Cooper, who oversees the Research Institute’s program management division, for providing opportunities that led her to become a lead Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) in brain cancer research, a role she considers one of her proudest accomplishments. With Cooper’s guidance, Dygert expanded her skills, learned from seasoned professionals, and navigated the intricate landscape of neuroscience research, gaining valuable experience in advancing patient care.

Highlighting the critical importance of encouraging diversity in research, Dygert emphasized, “Research is an incredibly challenging and rewarding field, always in need of new ideas and different perspectives.” She firmly believes that the energy and fresh perspectives brought by younger and diverse groups can be the catalyst for innovative breakthroughs, driving the continuous advancement of research.

Beyond her dedication to research, Dygert underscores the transformative impact of her role in research compliance and the Institute’s health literacy committee: “I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities.”

She sees these responsibilities as opportunities to shape the future of healthcare research by empowering patients to advocate for themselves within the complex healthcare landscape. Dygert is passionate about ensuring best practices to protect patients and the institute, expressing gratitude for the continual support of her family and the exceptional Institute teams she collaborates with every day.

As she navigates new challenges and opportunities, Dygert remains committed to advancing patient care, fostering diversity in research, and contributing to the Institute’s cutting-edge work.
