Bryan Manning, Associate Director of Clinical Research Ops

Before joining the world of clinical research, Bryan Manning spent two decades in hospitality—including a decade at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. But a move to Arizona in 2006 sparked a turning point.

“I discovered I was going to take an enormous pay cut, going from New York City to Phoenix. So it was a perfect time to change careers,” Bryan shared. “I knew a few people that worked in clinical research, and I took an interest in it—literally just applied for a job and got a job as a research assistant in 2009.”

Ten years later, Bryan is now a key leader in operations at HonorHealth Research Institute. “One thing that I’m really appreciative of is the chance I’ve had to work with [key figures in medical research]. Just having the experience of working with world class physicians and nurses… is really something I will always cherish.”

For those considering a future in research, Bryan says the impact is unmatched.

“If you establish yourself in clinical research, clinical research is always going to go on. We’re always going to need better drugs, new treatments, new devices… What we’re doing here is literally extending lives, saving lives. I can’t think of anything really more important than that.”

Outside of work, Bryan is taking on a new hobby: restoring vintage items.

“I was given a free piano a few weeks ago. I know nothing about pianos, but I’m going to dive in and see if I can take an old beat-up piano and really make it into something special.”

Whether it’s behind the scenes of a clinical trial or a restoration project at home, Bryan brings patience, curiosity, and purpose to everything he does.
