Question: How long have you been with HonorHealth?
Answer: 7 ½ years
Q: At what point in your early life did you decide you wanted to go into a career in research?
A: While my career hasn’t always centered on research, my passion for the medical field has been lifelong. Growing up, I was deeply inspired by my father, who served as both a flight medic and a fire marshal. His stories—filled with moments of tragedy, triumph, and unwavering dedication—left a lasting impression on me. It was his commitment to saving lives that sparked my own journey into healthcare.
After graduating from college, I began carving my own path in the medical field. I started in the operating room, transitioned into surgical pathology, and eventually found my way to HonorHealth as a research coordinator. Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working across multiple facets of medicine, each one reinforcing my belief that I chose the right path.
There’s no greater reward than knowing the work I do each day has the potential to help someone—whether it’s a patient today or one in the future. That sense of purpose continues to drive me forward.
Q: What is a work-related accomplishment you are proud of?
A: Creating a work environment that fosters cohesiveness, teamwork, and healthy competition is essential to building a culture of excellence. When teams are united and collaborative, they create a workplace that people are proud to be part of—one where mutual support and shared goals drive success.
At the same time, constructive competition—whether within a team or between groups—can be a powerful motivator. It pushes individuals to go beyond their comfort zones, strive for improvement, and unlock their full potential. When balanced with strong teamwork, competition doesn’t divide—it elevates everyone.
Ultimately, it’s the synergy between collaboration and challenge that helps individuals and teams grow into the best versions of themselves.
Q: Why is it so important to encourage younger and diverse groups to pursue a career in research?
A: Clinical trials are the cornerstone of medical advancement, but their success hinges on the quality and inclusivity of the data they generate. A diverse clinical research workforce plays a critical role in reaching underrepresented populations—those who have historically been excluded or overlooked in clinical studies. By fostering inclusivity, we move closer to bridging the gap between controlled clinical environments and the realities of everyday patient care. This alignment is essential for ensuring that treatments are truly safe and effective for all patients, not just a select few.
Equally important is investing in the next generation of clinical research professionals. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, research sites have faced significant staffing shortages. While the causes are multifaceted, the need for fresh talent is clear. Encouraging new professionals to enter the field is vital to sustaining innovation and driving scientific progress. By nurturing future clinical trialists, we lay the foundation for a more equitable and effective healthcare system for everyone.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?
A: My door is always open!
