Question: How long have you been with HonorHealth?
Answer: 8 years total.
Q: At what point in your early life did you decide you wanted to go into a career in research?
A: Early in my nursing education, I discovered a strong interest in understanding the rationale behind patient care decisions—how treatments are developed, and what drives changes in healthcare. This curiosity led me to an interest in research and evidence-based practice, and have become foundational to how I approach my work as a Clinical Educator. I integrate these principles into my role, supporting research staff in delivering informed, high-quality care and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Q: What is a work-related accomplishment you are proud of?
A: One accomplishment as a Clinical Nurse Educator at the research institute is creation of a multidisciplinary fall prevention committee within the oncology outpatient research clinic. This initiative launched a comprehensive fall prevention pilot project, resulting in a measurable reduction in patient falls and a significant improvement in patient safety. The project has also contributed to nursing scholarship, with three abstract submissions, two poster presentations, and a manuscript prepared for publication.
Q: Why is it so important to encourage younger and diverse groups to pursue a career in research?
A: Research is the foundation of healthcare—it shapes the treatments we provide and informs the best practices we follow. As science and technology continue to evolve, it’s essential that future generations actively contribute to this progress. Just as past innovations have transformed healthcare from basic diagnostic methods to advanced, personalized treatments, each new generation plays a vital role in driving that evolution forward. Including diverse backgrounds and viewpoints in research brings new ideas and approaches, helping us improve the science behind patient care and build a more inclusive, effective healthcare system.
