Winnie Tran
Research Systems Specialist

Question: How long have you been with HonorHealth?
Answer: Since 2019 – Started as a Clinical Research Coordinator III in Oncology, and moved over to the Business Operations side of HRI in 2021.

Q: At what point in your early life did you decide you wanted to go into a career in research?
A: The idea or prospect of research came into the picture during my Masters in 2015-2016 when I was working with a biomedical devices company on developing a data communications process for my thesis. From there, I was introduced to clinical research and have since been involved one way or another.

Q: What is a work-related accomplishment you are proud of?
A: I feel most proud and accomplished when I develop relationships with the team members of the organization. My role is to understand the needs and issues of our organization and work with our leadership to provide solutions, whether it is through technology acquisitions or developing IT resources and solutions to resolve any pending concerns and issues. Learning the latest technological pursuits and directions of the organizations provides a lot of insight  to the direction the company is leaning towards and the goals it is fostering.

Q: Why is it so important to encourage younger and diverse groups to pursue a career in research?
A: It is important to encourage future prospects into the field of research because there are many new developments and areas of growth for someone who wants to be involved in healthcare, but not take the traditional route of nursing or clinician educational backgrounds. Research provides insight into the patient-facing skills necessary in healthcare, data management and compliance protocols understanding within this field, and technological understanding of advancements and growth.

QIs there anything else you would like to share about yourself?
A: I recently achieved my Ph.D in Information Technology as of December 2024, and am officially recognized as Dr. Winnie Tran, Ph.D. through my program and committee. My Ph.D dissertation is on: Understanding the Development of IT governance for Hospitals to Ensure Value of Technological Investments. Please feel free to reach out and I can send a copy of my manuscript for those interested.
