A Message From Our Program Leader

At the Research Institute’s NeuroTrauma Research Program, we are committed to transforming care for patients with brain and spinal injuries through world-class neurotrauma research, advanced neurosurgical innovation, and collaborative clinical trials.

About Our Program

The NeuroTrauma Research Program is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Led by Dr. Rory Murphy, a neurosurgeon and clinical scientist with expertise in complex cranial and spinal pathologies, our multidisciplinary team integrates neuroscience, neuro-engineering, and clinical expertise to accelerate discoveries and translate them into ways to benefit patients.

We focus on four key areas:

  • Advanced neuroimaging for early diagnosis.
  • Development of neuroprotective therapies.
  • Optimization of surgical techniques for acute injuries.
  • Rehabilitation strategies that harness neuroplasticity.

Our collaborations span global research institutions, medical device innovators, and patient advocacy groups, ensuring that breakthroughs are informed by patient needs and rapidly translated into clinical care.

NeuroTrauma Facts and Figures

20,000 patients sustain spinal cord injuries in the U.S. annually.

5.3 million Americans live with long-term disability from traumatic brain injury.

Early intervention can improve recovery rates by 40% in severe neurotrauma cases.
