Biography

Alexa was born in San Diego, Calif., alongside her twin sister and spent most of her late childhood through adolescence in Bellevue, Wash.

She was diagnosed with chronic severe idiopathic neutropenia in the fifth grade and had back surgery for scoliosis during high school. Her combined love for the sciences and experiences as a patient made her passionate about caring for people with chronic conditions from an early age.

Alexa graduated summa cum laude with honors from Wagner College in December 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. A trip to Bangladesh to study environmental pollution and the effects on health during her sophomore year of college solidified her desire to become a physician.

In addition, Alexa graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest in Lebanon, Ore., in May 2022. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at HonorHealth in Scottsdale, Ariz., in June 2025. She then transitioned into her role as the Oncology post doctoral research fellow with the HonorHealth Research Institute in July 2025. Alexa remains a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, and Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Some of her research endeavors include a summer internship at Johns Hopkins University, where she studied single nucleotide polymorphisms in the human interleukin-10 promoter and their effects on gene expression in mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages, a clinical survey on the use of immunosuppressed diets in immunocompromised patients, and a retrospective analysis of capecitabine maintenance therapy in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Her current specialty interest includes hematology/oncology.
